Telecom Jobs
Professional workers comprise nearly one-fifth of all those employed in telecommunications. Many of them, like you, are engineers or computer specialists. What the industry seeks specifically are:
• Engineers who specialize in research and development of new equipment or design of voice, video, or data telecommunications systems, or who integrate communications equipment with computer networks
• Engineers with a background in the development of gas lasers or fiber optic cable messaging
• Computer software engineers
• Network systems analysts and designers
• Data communications analysts with specialties in design, development, testing, or debugging of software products, modeling programs for cellular and satellite systems or programs for telephone options, such as voice mail, e-mail, and call waiting
• Telecommunications specialists who can coordinate the installation of these systems and provide follow-up maintenance and training.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, U.S. Department of Labor, the expansion of communications networks and the need for telecommunications providers to invest in research and development, opens new job opportunities for electrical and electronics engineers and computer professionals seeking new challenges. A growing number of retirements and the continuing need for skilled workers will also be opening up good job opportunities for individuals with up-to-date technical skills.
Beyond the employment picture in the large telecommunications companies, business demand for high tech workers is concurrently rising as companies increasingly rely on their telecommunications systems to conduct electronic commerce, ordering, record keeping, and video conferencing.
